Frozen Foods Are Hot!

March is National Frozen Food Month and with so many choices in the frozen foods aisle today, there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to find something they like!

Why Choose Frozen?

Walk the aisle and discover a plethora of delicious foods including nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables, perfectly portioned meals and snacks, natural and organic selections, a variety of ethnic cuisines, home-baked quality desserts and delectable ice cream and novelty treats. These foods, using real ingredients, are developed and prepared by chefs in innovative test kitchens across the country and are intended to meet a wide variety of tastes and menu needs.

Freezing is nature’s preservative, a wholly natural process used and trusted for centuries, so no preservatives are needed. Freezing suspends the enzyme activity that causes food to spoil.  When food is flash-frozen immediately after cooking, all the freshness, flavor and nutrients in the food are ‘locked in’ while they are at their peak. It remains that way until it’s eaten as long as it is properly stored, whereas fresh food naturally begins to break down once it's picked or prepared, losing not just its flavors and textures, but its vitamins and minerals as well. Some frozen foods contain even more nutrients compared to fresh foods. This is especially true with vegetables and fruits since they are picked at peak ripeness and often frozen within hours, locking in nutrients and flavor.

Frozen foods are convenient to use and can save time. Stocking the freezer with a variety of wholesome options that cover breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack-time and entertaining can ease the time crunch without sacrificing quality. It’s especially helpful when your day doesn't go as planned, as it gives you a quick way of fixing a meal since you can simply open the freezer and grab food to create your own dishes or a convenience food product that simply needs to be reheated.

Purchasing, Storing and Cooking Safety Tips

  • Add frozen food items to your cart toward the end of the grocery shopping trip

  • Unload frozen items and place in freezer immediately upon arriving home
  • Maintain freezer temperature at 0°F or below
  • Do not overpack the freezer to allow air to circulate properly
