6 Mocktails and Low Alcohol Beverages to Try This Summer!

Non-Alcohol and Low Alcohol Alternatives for Summer Sipping!

Non-alcohol and low alcohol alternatives are exploding in popularity as an increasing number of people are in search of healthier options, and can easily be crafted at home. Low alcohol beverages are a good choice for anyone looking for a way to cut down on alcohol without eliminating it completely, whereas non-alcoholic cocktail-style beverages, sometimes still referred to as mocktails, provide fresh and flavorful options perfect for any occasion and any crowd. Both can be made by mixing fruit juices, soft drinks, iced teas and/or infused waters that provide a sophisticated balance of flavors.

Non-Alcoholic Alternatives

Just like when serving cocktails, presentation is important. Be sure to use appropriate glassware or drinkware, i.e. rocks glasses, wine glasses, copper mugs, mason jars, etc., and garnish for a festive touch. You can even freeze fruit in ice trays for a colorful garnish, and it can double by keeping the drink cold.

Simple syrup is also often used to create alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and can easily be made at home by simmering equal parts sugar and water (1:1) over medium-low heat in a small saucepan just until sugar is dissolved. It also can be infused for a rich flavor. Fruits, herbs, whole spices, extracts, etc. can be added to the basic sugar/water recipe, strained, and discarded once the syrup cools. Simple syrup can be stored in a sealed glass container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
